Although some people seem to consider learning to be something that is often restricted to a classroom environment, I think that students will not learn without a proper supporting environment. Everyone is inspired by something or someone in some way. My inspirations have driven me forward and I am continuously pushing myself to be better academically because of my supporting environment. I am most influenced by my dad, the growth I shared with my friends throughout high school, and my passion for the majors I chose.
When I was in elementary school, still too young to take care of myself, I used to spend my afternoons after school with my dad. I used to wait impatiently for my dad to pick me up from school. He would take me to Providence with him to talk and joke around while he worked. By the end of the night, however, there was nothing I wanted to do more than go home. My dad's day, even though I was only present for half of it, seemed so endlessly long and tiring to me. These afternoons spent in my dad's truck made me realize just how much time and effort he put into earning enough money to comfortably support our family. I realized that when I grew up, I want to be just like him. I want to be able to support myself, support a possible family, and be happy with my choices and day-to-day experiences. My dad has provided a lot of inspiration for me because he shows me what my life can look like if I am willing to work hard. He proves to me that if I try my best, I can be successful.
While my dad has had a huge impact on me throughout my life, my friends have had a more concentrated influence. We have grown up together within our high school environment and developed a healthy interest in our educations. I can always find support by turning to my friends; they understand what I am trying to do and how to get it done. My friends are always willing to help me work through a problem, whether it relates to schoolwork or not. They have faced many of the same challenges I have and I trust their judgment. My friends provide me with an unfaltering support system both in and out of the classroom and help me motivate myself to get things done.
My friends and I are all motivated by a similar passion of what we have chosen to study. My interests in reading, creative writing, and kids have led me along a pretty straight path to becoming an English and Secondary Education double major. I have known for my whole life that I would like to somehow be involved in English for a career. I have been reading books obsessively and writing my own stories since I was a little kid. Working with kids has also been a passion of mine for years. I have used my passions to keep me motivated to do well in school; it is easy to be motivated and put your best effort forth when you are doing something you love.
I have had a very supportive environment to help push me along throughout my academic career. My motivation comes from a multitude of sources, including my father, my friends, and my love for the subjects I am majoring in. While all of these influences are effective on their own, I think it is the combination of the three that truly motivate me enough to help me on a path toward success.
